Monolithic
Overview
This installation was an experiment in scale and perspective. Using repurposed industrial fluorescent lighting fixtures I constructed a monolith standing over 10 feet tall and capable of nearly 2000 watts of light output.
Once a suitable location was found I used special audio software to create a virtual simulation of the reverberation within that space. Using this simulation I was able to have simulated audio sources constantly moving around the space. Pairing this with high-precision audio monitors meant for ambisonic reproduction, I was able to create zones of constructive or destructive interference that would travel around the space.
The apparent result to the viewer is areas of high and low sound pressure that seem to pass through them, creating slight feelings of weight or levity as they explore the space.
